One thing that many people who cannot sleep have in common is that they have a lot of internal dialogue. It's often very loud, very fast, and just goes on and on and on. No wonder they can't sleep.
Self Hypnosis can be successful with sleep disorders.
One of the simplest ways to improve your ability to sleep is to take control of this internal voice, but rather than try to stop it, which is likely to be very difficult, start by slowing it down - make it really dreary and dull. As it slows it will probably become quieter too and you will find that this is actually a very powerful way to relax. What if that voice became so slow that you suddenly felt the need to yawn.
Perhaps there is someone you know, or someone from the TV who you find really dull and monotonous. How about turning this voice into their voice? I remember a welsh leacterer I had for computing several years ago who had a very smooth but monotone voice. His lectures were usually straight after lunch and staying awake was next to impossible.
If you have trouble sleeping because you are physically restless or suffer from restless legs, then try recording a relaxation induction based on body relaxation. Another option is to buy a hypnosis recording such as the ones listed below.
Another very hypnotic way to get to sleep is Betty Erickson's method, just remember to keep your internal voice slow and quiet - as if you were reading a bedtime story to a child. In the past, when I've had trouble sleeping, this has been my preferred method.
Confusion Inductions are a quick method of trance induction that can easily overload the brain. Try counting from three hundred to one in quarters (out loud if possible) and visualise each numeric in a different colour (first red, then yellow, then blue, then green for instance), and rotate these colours when visualising the fractions so it goes something like: Three Hundred in red, then two hundred and ninety nine in blue with the three of the three quarters in yellow and the four of the three quarters in yellow, then the two hundred and ninety nine in green etc, etc. If you can manage this for long without your brain giving up then you could probably solve world hunger in an afternoon! My brain is giving up just reading the description.
Are there any hypnotic downloads for Sleep?
There are several hypnosis MP3s from HypnosisDownloads that I can recommend to help you with sleep. These are: Insomnia Buster Pack, Cure Insomnia, Drift off to Sleep, and Sleep Like a Child.
How long will it take to improve your Sleep Patterns?
Using any hypnosis recording last thing at night will improve your ability to relax and therefore sleep, so using a recording specifically for sleep should improve your sleep patterns straight away. You may find that it takes a little while before you can sleep easily without using a recording, but this will come eventually.
How often should you use a Self Hypnosis recording for Sleep?
Usually I don't recommend that hypnosis recordings are listened to night after night. I find that after a couple of nights I need a normal nights sleep. But as you're using a recording to help with sleep, then in this case my advice is different. Use the recording every night until you feel relaxed enough to sleep without it. Then use the recording once a week for a couple of months and see how you get on.
Good Luck!
