Build your Confidence with NLP

The goal of this exercise to use an internal visualization to change your physiology and thus change your internal state.

The more powerful and varied states you have access to, the more flexible and enjoyable your life will be. The more times you use exercises such as this to generate new and interestingly powerful states the easier it will become for you to generate these states and to generate them to be as positive and powerful as you wish. So Practice, Practice, Practice!

Before attempting this NLP exercise, read it through several times to ensure that you can run through the steps. It's a good idea to run through the NLP Memory Manipulation lessons before attempting this NLP exercise to get a general grounding in building and changing internal representation.

Also, use the Getting Grounded exercise to build a good solid base to start from.

So here goes:

Stand up and get into the grounded state.

Close your eyes and visualize yourself standing facing you.

Build into this other you all the attributes that would make them exactly as confident as you wish to be.

Steal attributes from where ever you wish.

For instance, you might want the voice of Anthony Hopkins, or the poise of Bruce Lee.

Build them all in.

Notice how the image before you changes.

Make sure the image is big and bold.

Notice how their posture changes, maybe you have an idea of how that confidence must feel as it pumps through them.

When you are ready, in your mind walk around behind the confident you and step into them.

Feel yourself take on their posture and their feelings.

Notice that you are now standing on a stage before an audience who are giving you a standing ovation.

Feel the warmth of their applause.

Notice where in your body the new confident feeling is strongest, and notice how it moves around your body.

Does it start in your head or in your stomach?

How does it move?

Now take the feeling and notice where it starts, and where it goes.

Loop the feeling back to its source so that the feeling builds stronger with each breath you take spinning faster and faster.

Look down at that audience and notice how you now feel.

Repeat until you can't stand feeling so wonderful any more.

Bigger and Bigger

I have been using this exercise a lot, because I absolutely love it.
The first time I tried it I felt as if I was about 6 inches taller and a foot wider! I didn't think I could get through the door! Weird!
Now I don't feel quite so strange when I do the exercise, but its always a good fun nlp booster.

And, of course this affected my confidence massively.

I really enjoyed this exercise. I am trained NLP Master Practitioner and I do this exercise every day to motivate and strengthen myself physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. It is better to do this exercise in the morning and start the day in a Peak state.

i was thinking

what if you stand in front of a mirror, does the exercise have the same effect. .? and can you later on anchor this stuff. .

Can't see any advantage

Antonio, I'm not sure what you'd hope to achieve by using a mirror - the point is that you are visualizing yourself and changing the image. As to anchoring, yes definitely.

Serious issues

Hey, I used to use NLP to help me build confidence and it was really great but I am finding it difficult just to find a happy memory to anchor to. The best things in my life that I have loved dont seem to be doing it for me, is there any advice you can give me please?

Happy Memories

David, how do you know? Is it simply that you can't get into a strong state? Go through the submodalities lesson and work on improving the state by changing the submodalities. For instance turning the brightness up or moving the picture closer.

David ...

David, sorry for the slowness of posts making to the website. As mentioned in my post above - work on using submodalities to enhance the positive memories you have.
